Blue Sky Disney has a post up that says that "the rumors are true" that Pixar is working on Monsters, Inc. 2, and that Pete Docter is helming the project for a 2013 release.Blue Sky Disney doesn't give even the slightest source information, but regardless it's very believable that a sequel is in the works. Last month, yours truly stumbled upon some very convincing evidence.
Enthused?

So it's true! I'm so excited!!
Yay, it's official!
Monsters Inc has been the one that I most wanted to see a sequel for.
Good job figuring out the information early!
As I have said, I won't believe it until the words, "Yes, we are making a Monsters, Inc. sequel" or some variation of that statement comes directly out of Pete Docter's mouth. The 'evidence' to suggest a sequel is very circumstantial at best.
Pls come up with an excellent story for the sequel! Bu and Kitty are the most beloved characters from Pixar. :D
Official? Hardly. blue sky Disney doesn't have much credentials as far as I can tell. what makes them more than just some blog? who runs it that I should put any faith in at all? if it was some insider that has leaked stuff like this before, then I'd understand.
enthused? heck yeah! you know when pixar comes up w/ a sequel, it's got to have a great story worthy of the original. heck, it might even be better.. & that, fortunately for us, is something to get enthused about =)
@ Kyle
I would recommend reading previous BlueSky Disney articles. I have been a loyal follower and he has proven to have high credibility with Disney insider information. From the theme parks to the overall business, his sources have proven themselves time and time again.
Again, I invite you to do your own verification.
I would also like to clarify that I agree with Kyle that this does not make it 'official.' Nothing with Disney is ever official until it's completed. But I would say it's 'credible.'
Really? Monster's Inc. is my least favorite Pixar movie; I actually did enjoy Shrek more (although it's sequels were nothing to rave about). I was more excited for Cars 2! Besides, everyone's been rubbing their palms for an Incredibles sequel.
Alright, thanks Robert, I tried to skim through the blog to find some credible inside info, but didn't see anything. guess I didn't look hard enough? (if you have any examples on other stories he broke that would be cool)
As for my thoughts, I'd take this over Cars 2, but I agree with others in that the original ended so well, I'm not sure they can do it without cheapening it.
could it be a prequel? maybe an adventure with other monsters completely, just in the same universe?
I just have to have faith that they wont screw it up. we have no real reason to doubt them considering their perfect track record. I think people are just waiting for them to fail. the pressure gets higher and higher every movie, and its even riskier with sequels, especially ones that tied up loose ends while leaving just enough to the imagination.
Hmm, how about finishing with a movie, handing it off to the merchandisers, and then moving on to something totally new? Pixar is known for its creative genious, but time spent on sequels takes away from time creating brand-new worlds. If Pixar can only make one film a year, I'd like it to be an original. Heck, if Pixar can only make fifty films a year, I'd like them ALL to be orignals!
Hmm.
That's very interesting. Monsters, Inc is my No. 6 favorite Pixar film (and don't hate me for that), and a sequel would be interesting.
But I need more proof.
Besides, I'm more interesting in Cars 2 and an Incredibles sequel once Brad's finished with 1906. (Not to be rude, but the movie sounds very similar to that horrid Titanic movie.)
My other problem is that, if it is true, and it is revealed soon, I don't think they will give away the plot right away. And I want to know the plot (if it is true).
Another good idea for a sequel would be WALL-E--it's my favorite animated movie and is only surpassed by Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 2.
