An engrossing three-page Q&A with Partly Cloudy director Peter Sohn is up at the Animation World Network (AWN).Sohn talks about the short film and its influences, John Lasseter's advice for him, the technical aspects of animating the clouds, and whether the matching of the short with Up was intentional or not, just to name a few of the many subjects discussed.
The AWN interview also contains several stills and pieces of concept art from the short, such as the one seen at the top. And be sure to check out the 30-second clip from the short on AWNtv.

Excellent interview and clip! I can't wait to see the whole short.
Oh, and I'll just take this opportunity to gloat. Back when that test footage from Up came out in January and everyone but me thought Russell's scratch voice was Lou Romano... I was right, it WAS Pete Sohn! I feel so smart.
acooper! i'm impressed! how did you recognize his voice? is pete on any of the dvds?
Peter Sohn is the voice of Émile in Ratatouille.
That's some real Pixar-talent there acooper2! :D
Oh my God! That was sooooo cute!
"Pieces," not "peices." :)
I love this blog!
Thanks for all the acknowledgement. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go let the air out of my ego before it over-inflates again... ;)
I love how they not only use shorts as entertainment, but also to test themselves and their technologies. That just shows that they truly are the leaders in animation. They are willing to take risks.
Awesome read, Partly Cloudy definitely looks to be a winner and great directing start for Peter Sohn. :) I was actually wondering if it would be in 3D as well, but this answered my question.
I'm highly excited to see both Up and Partly Cloudy in 3D now!
