Pixar expansion construction photos (May 2009)

Not to be forgotten in light of yesterday's big announcement that Pixar is opening a satellite studio in Vancouver is the multi-million dollar expansion now underway of the studio's headquarters in Emeryville. The Phase II project represents the biggest expansion of Pixar's facilities since the move from Point Richmond to Emeryville in 2001.

Below are three photographs of the construction taking place generously taken by reader Christine Free, who works nearby 1200 Park Avenue. Notice the main building in the background in picture #2.

I hope to be able to provide readers with new photos of the site as construction (due to be completed in the spring of 2011) advances.

Very special thanks to Christine Free for the pictures

Off-topic: Have you seen the new Star Trek movie yet, or are you planning to?!? It's amazing!

I haven't yet but I want to. I saw The Soloist yesterday, which was very interesting.

I read in the Toronto Star this morning a very interesting article/interview by Peter Howell about Up. It says that Pete Docter was in Toronto earlier this month. Judging by the article I think Peter Howell has already seen the film, which means it must have screened last week.

Here's a Pixar Pile Driver Jam that a TD put together about the expansion project.

All very nice for Pixar but the noise is driving us neighbors CRAZY. Stop the pile driving!!!!!!

Oh my God make the pile driving stop! It's getting ridiculous. Not one pile driver but two? Pixar is really starting to make people angry.

Yeah, it's not as if Pixar was exactly a great neighbor in the first place, what with all the speeding minicoopers ignoring the crosswalks and disappearing into their walled compound, but the pile driving is too much. Could they at least take a break now and then?
