Although mysteriously still not available for pre-order on CD, a cover, release date, and track listing (with 30-second previews) for the long-awaited Up soundtrack have at last been discovered on the album's page on Amazon.com's MP3 download site. 4. Carl Goes Up
5. 52 Chachki Pickup
6. Paradise Found
7. Walkin’ the House

11. The Nickel Tour

13. Escape from Muntz Mountain
14. Giving Muntz the Bird

About the cover, it may just be the most beautiful ever for a Pixar soundtrack.

Never fond of Pixar cover arts. Either it's a logo (Cars, Ratatouille and The Incredibles) or some character(s) flashing grins (and really, why did Randy Newman have to make a cameo on Monsters, Inc. cover?). This is nicer, but a little bit too crowded (?) for a square and I was hoping for the more minimalistic image (like the teaser poster).
I like the WALL-E package and A Bug's Life simple yet magical image of Flik through a leaf. If only Ratatouille had that image of Remy looking over Paris on the cover...
The music inside is a different story though. Aside from Cars, I absolutely love everything.
There is only going to be a digital download version of this soundtrack as scores are not considered to be mass appeal enough to the masses for a hard copy release.
On the contrary, scores are usually released for big movies. Even Shrek, whose main soundtrack has songs and only one score, has a full score album released - At first, I thought that it was only available on iTunes, but I have seen it at Best Buy.
Up will be released. You can count on it. Michael Giacchino's music is quite popular. The album for Star Trek was just a score, and he had CD signings for it. If anything, when it is released, it will be more expensive, as scores usually are. Note that there is a song on it though...
If anything, usually 'just scores' don't elicit songbooks. Michael Giacchino's Pixar scores usually do though. Both The Incredibles and Ratatouille were released as 'Piano Solo's', and as 'Arrangements for Orchestra'.
Shorter then usual.
Sadly, I like Thomas Newman better then Michael, so I'll be looking forward to his next Pixar music work, and yet it looks like there's not much action in the film UP, even though it's rated for Some Peril and Action.
I'll never understand Michael.
Mike's right, the cover is very beautiful. I am surprised that the track "Memories Can Weigh You Down" does not take place early on in the film.
I have listened to EVERY Pixar soundtrack except Ratatouille, and they are all good.
Anonymous, that makes no sense. The previous 9 scores were released why not this one? The CD hasn't been on Amazon yet but it'll be.
"Giving Muntz the Bird"! HA! HA! That could mean more than one thing!
Hello there! I 'd like to ask when "THE ART OF UP" is going to be released...
I am so happy right now!
Anonymous # 3: I believe it is already released in the USA, and will be released on June 1st, 2009 in Canada.
PixarFanatic, you should listen to the Ratatouille score. One of the most beautiful score of Pixar and animated films ever. It's Michael's first Grammy.
I just listened to the samples. I DID NOT LIKE IT!!!!
It's too country-style, and I simply hate that. I liked the tracks "52 Chakiki Pickup," "Escape from Muntz Mountain," and "Seizing the Spirit of Adventure," but that's it.
This is Pixar's worst music yet. Go ahead. Kill me.
JD,
I never really listened to Ratatouille because I disliked the movie more then other Pixar films as well, but I will take your advice.
I never really pay that much attention to beautifulness, but then again, I LOVED "Define Dancing" from WALL-E, so it's worth a try.
Despite my parents' reservations ("You give too much money to Pixar as it is!") I think I really want this soundtrack, too. I've already purchased the "Pixar Hits", "Bolt" and "WALL·E" soundtracks against their wishes.
Small Mailman???
during the movie when carl was coming down the stairs in the automated chair, what is the name of the classical opera song that was played?
To "Anonymous":
The opera music when Carl comes down the stairs in the beginning is "Habanera" from "Carmen" by Georges Bizet.
:-)

Daniel
@antares42:
Thank you! I have been searching everywhere for an answer to this. It's a shame it didn't end up on the soundtrack. I was prepared to buy is exclusively for that piece. (Not to say the remainder of the soundtrack is not reason for consideration.)
Thanks again!
Settle a dispute that I had with my teenage son while driving home from seeing Up...Was Bizet's Habanera used because of the lyrics..l'amour est un oiseau rebelle...because of the bird character Kevin (my opinion) or was it pure coincidence, something that my son (while rolling his eyes) says that "only you Mom would even think of..."
You know, I would LOVE to buy the soundtrack, but I can't outside the US! This is ridiculous, as it forces me to rip the files off when I would GLADLY pay for them. Get your act together, Disney :/.
