Toy Story Collection toys

With the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3-D double feature less than two months away from release, a plethora of new Toy Story-themed 'children's playthings' will be arriving in stores, leading up to the debut of Toy Story 3 in theatres on June 18, 2010.

While I won't be attempting to cover each of the dozens of items that will go on sale between now and next summer, I do intend to report periodically on the ones that really stand out and are most appealing to fans.

As of now, most exciting is the Toy Story Collection, a line of super deluxe toys manufactured by Thinkway, Pixar's toymaker of choice. These are the most 'definitive, highly detailed, and accurate' replicas produced to date of the toys from the movies.

The collection is comprised of Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Rex action figures, RC remote-control car, Space Alien (aka Little Green Men) squeeze toys, and Bucket O Soldiers plastic figures.

Each features a variety of special features, as described on the respective product pages. The Woody, Buzz, Rex, and RC toys are the most advanced, having several high-tech capabilities.

Worth mentioning are the included Certificates of Authenticity with John Lasseter's printed signature and the fact that the toys boasts "film accurate paint details", the original data files from Pixar being used.

If you're wondering, there's no new Jessie doll available, surprising indeed considering the character's appeal to girls (and male über über-nerds).

Toys from the Toy Story Collection can be pre-ordered separately from the Disney Store online (except for Buzz, available for pre-order soon) and will ship late this month, or you keep an eye out for them at your local toy store in the Fall.

Wow, the attention to detail on these is just plain great. I remember owning a bunch of Toy Story toys -- Woody, Buzz, Rex, Hamm... pretty much the whole gang. Good times. These look even better.

Really excited about all of these.

I wonder why Buzz is the only one not available for preorder yet. Do they think they need to give woody some time to shine before they release Buzz, a more popular toy with the kids? or maybe the manufacturing costs caused them to take more time with it?

Anyway, I have a theory for Jessie. their focusing only on characters from the first movie for now. They have nearly a whole year to release a Jessie doll, and any new Toy Story 3 characters. so Im betting we'll see a batch of Toy Story 2 characters pop up late this year or early next year. I'm hoping they eventually release a new Ham and Slinky dog too. these are toys they wouldn't even have to try that hard with, as no electronics need to be involved. (though I'm sure they'll feel obligated to for whatever reason)

I just wish these weren't so pricey. 65 bucks for the larger ones is pretty high.

I already got my Woody doll! Toys R US dudes. Toys R Us!

I'm being picky, but Woody's head looks too big for his body. And I'm still waiting on a Woody doll to have the same face as the movie one aka closed-mouth smile.

anonymous 1: which one? the 65 dollar one, or the cheaper one?

anonymous 2: agreed. though I'm not sure about his head being too big. I think it might be just an illusion due to his lack of shoulders. I think it might be hard to give him proper shoulders without being plastic. you'll also notice in the movie the part that connects his arm to his body is stretchy in the movie, which again isnt possible. so I think his head might be fine, its just his lack of defined shoulders make his torso look too small, ie make his head seem larger.

and yeah, Ive been saying that about the smile for a while.

I cant figure out why they keep insisting on open mouths. I mean, I could kind of justify it for the older ones, since open smiles=more appealing to kids. its more marketable. but when you set out to make replicas, and sell them for 64 bucks, its not too much to ask for the accurate expression.

Still, its the most accurate version of Woody to date, so I'll be getting it.

Woody's head is bigger in the movie, too. It's part of his charm.

Hey Mike? Are you a male über über-nerd? Are you very upset at no new Jessie doll? ; )

Basically.

Isn't this a little surreal here? Esp. stuff like the Bucket O Soldiers. I mean, we take a classic and very cheap toy from way back in the 50s-70s, then they make animated facsimiles of the toys for the movies. And now we have the "authentic" movie version. Given the limits of the original TS modeling technology, the soldiers seemed a little amorphous compared to the real ones (still great though, and I love the whole shtick with the guy who gets stepped on) and now those limits get passed on to the "real" toys! Oh, and now those cheap soldiers are premium priced.

The MOST important thing these new characters of Woody and Buzz need though is the REAL voices! Film accurate paint is nice, but using a stand-in voice (which all previous dolls had) is just ridiculous!

Kyle: Both were there. The 50 voice/ Woody's roundup "Toy Story Collection" boxed one was 50 bucks there.

Doug: Yes, it Jim Hank's voice doing Woody. : (

So Mike? Do you have an old Jessie doll that you still play with? ; )

50 bucks eh? Thats 15 bucks cheaper than the Disney store/Amazon listed price. Might make it easier on me to afford if I can find one in stores.

Hope Buzz is 50 as well.
Has anyone spotted him in stores yet by the way?

oh, and if true, disappointing that Jim's doing the voice yet again. how hard is it to get Tom in for a simple recording session? they probably have enough material from Toy Story 3's recordings alone.

Just got Buzz from ToysRus tonight too and it is AWESOME. : )

Target here had the Buzz doll with the certificate and 50 Tim Allen sayings for $49

Who is Jim Hanks? I thought it was Tom Hanks.

Mike said...

Jim Hanks is Tom Hanks' brother. He's voiced Woody in the video games, etc.

Why, oh why, can't they make the toys EXACTLY like the movies? WHY?!?

Who wants all that electronic garbage? All it does is make them more expensive!

So, frustrating!

I saw Woody, Rex and the Aliens at Toys R Us.

The detail on Woody was amazing-but I had hoped they would have made him with the closed-smile like he is in the movies.

The Aliens were in three separate poses than their standard arms-spread at right angles look.

At TRU, Woody was $50, and the aliens were $30. So tempted to get the aliens..but I don't know if they squeak.

so is woody only being found at TRU?

I never noticed that the movie woody had a closed mouth smile. oh and i have a woody doll with andy's signature on it i'm pretty sure it was one of the toy's features. does any one know if the new one has that?
