Dick Cook resigns

Briefly: Disney veteran Dick Cook resigned late last night from the post of Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, which oversees Pixar through the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group. No word yet on who will be selected by Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger to replace him.

The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and /Film, among other outlets, have full coverage of Cook's "shocking" resignation, which comes on the heals of relatively poor performance for recent Disney releases.

A lot reports are saying he was fired, that it wasn't his choice.

This will not only affect Pixar, but the upcoming POTC 4 film (I love POTC!), Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars, and Brad Bird's 1906. I hope that none of those films or filmmakers suffer due to the change-up. I nominate John Lasseter as his replacement.

John Lasseter is already Principal Creative Advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering. He can't also be Chairman of Walt Disney Studios, can he? Not with also being a director or producer for a number of films, and the head honcho of Pixar.
