Toy Story 3 at D23 Expo

A lot of very cool Toy Story 3 news came out of the D23 Expo ―the first ever official convention for Disney fans― today. In the morning John Lasseter was on hand to host the Walt Disney and Pixar animation panel. Just a short while ago director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson hosted the panel specific to 'TS3'.

A new theatrical trailer for 'TS3', featuring never-before-seen clips from the movie, was screened in 3-D for the enthusiastic audience. The trailer begins with "home video" of the toys' owner Andy growing up, culminating with his high school graduation picture.

Andy, as we've know for some time now, leaves for college (yes, I spelled it right this time!) and the toys get dropped off at the daycare. Cinematical describes the kids there as making "[Sid] in the original Toy Story look like a cuddly hamster". Whoa!

Several major additions to the cast were also announced. Whoopi Goldberg (this is her first time working with Pixar), Bonnie Hunt (you heard it here first), and Jeff Garlin will each be lending their voices to new characters in the film. The original voice of Andy, the now grown-up John Morris, will be reprising his role from Toy Story and Toy Story 2.

At the 'TS3' panel an unfinished scene from the film was shown, beginning with "an 18-year old Andy getting ready to leave for college". Check out IGN for a complete description.

Afterwards, Unkrich and Anderson introduced the North American premiere of the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 double feature.

Yes! Yes! I wil saturate IMDb's update offices with this information! I want to be at D23! I gobble this information up. There is no one else I know (in real life) who knows as much or more than I about Pixar.

BLEARG!

Is it just me, or is the highlight of this story that John Morris is reprising his role as Andy over a decade later?! Love that Pixar kept him. Incredible news...

I was there, and yes.. it was amazing!

I totally agree, Kevin. I always hate it when they replace actors, even with minor characters.

Crap... I sort of don't like them brining in Whoopi Goldberg here... Pixar, unlike DW, doesn't too often use famous actors to play their characters, which I respect... beh, as long as she doesn't play anyone too major.

Uhhh, Leirin, do Tom Hanks and Tim Allen ring a bell?

I'm not a big fan of Whoopi Goldberg either. (I actually find her kind of annoying, to tell the truth) But I'm sure she'll fit the character that she's given, Pixar's pretty gosh-darned smart.

Oh yeah, Jim Morris is coming back!

Goddalay-bob-howdy!

Anonymous, you give a good fact about Tom Hanks, but Tim Allen hadn't even starred in many productions by time the first Toy Story came out.

I'm not saying they should use only obscure actors or anything, I just think it's better for them not to go for any of those overrated stars used waaay too often in films, especially animated films, these days. Eddy Murphy ring a bell, anyone?

That's true Leiren, I know that, I was just trying to make a point, and I see yours.

I too thought, "Whoopi goldberg?" at first, but I've never disliked a casting choice Pixar has made yet, so I'm going to trust them on this one.

I've only seen Shrek 2 (in school, years ago) and he completely annoyed me...
