What may be the first piece of publicly-released concept art for Pixar's summer 2011 feature Cars 2 is published in The Walt Disney Company's glossy annual report, "The Year in Review", for 2009, distributed to shareholders and available online for the general public. I've captured and cropped the image for your enjoyment here. The international flavour of the film can be easily appreciated from this scene. The cars appear to be traveling through Japan with what looks like a stylized Mount Fuji visible in the background.
Thanks to reader Jason for taking the time to email me about this

Awesome! It's impressive how much detail they put into just concept art!
the color scheme is beautiful!
Driving or racing? That appears like it may be the race track in Fuji. See http://www.formula1.com/races/in_detail/japan_802/destination_guide.html
Love it! The general storyline for Cars2 sounds really interesting, and seeing this concept art work begins to bring it to life.
It appears McQueen has working headlights? This was initially pointed out on Upcoming Pixar...
i am cant wait to see cars 2 owowow and frist comment!
I love this concept art. The color scheme, an an anonymous pointed out, is gorgeous. Really lush. Can't wait to see some art for the other upcoming features.
@Amy P. I do not agree, especially after reading this snippet from Wikipedia.
"However, Mater, involved in a case of mistaken identity, saves the life of a British secret agent called Finn McMissile, and finds himself embroiled in his world of international espionage."
Since McQueen is probably going to be racing the entire film, I could see Mater's storyline taking up a larger part of the film. Now, some of you may like Mater, but I personally believe that he is Pixar's Jar-Jar Binks.
Needless to say, I am very worried about how this movie is going to turn out.
That new character looks strange, the way his windshield/eyes is/are shaped. And do I see a reappearance of OctaneGain™?
This is exciting. I saw a hint of this at the Disney Store this weekend. It was a Cars set, that featured Mater and McQueen as drift cars.
@ On Screen Cars.
That's from the Cars Toons Short Movie: Tokyo Mater.
That's really amazing. I like the art and color scheme.
