PGA Award nominations for Jonas Rivera/'Up'

The nominations for the 21st Annual Producers Guild Awards have been announced by the Producers Guild of America (PGA).

Up producer Jonas Rivera (pictured) is nominated in the top category, the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures, as well as in the animation category.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is the first time the producer of an animated film has been nominated for the Zanuck award. The nomination of Rivera for Up in what is effectively the Guild's "Best Picture" category is thus being recognized as a hopeful sign for the film's Best Picture Oscar chances.

Pixar will be well-represented at this year's PGA awards, which take place on January 24. This past October, the Guild announced that Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter would be receiving the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in recognition of his career in the industry.

The Incredibles was nominated for the top award a few years back, but I don't think they named a producer...I could be wrong though.
