Two Grammy wins for 'Up'/Giacchino

Up was announced this evening as the winner in two of the three categories it was nominated in at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards: Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media and Best Instrumental Composition (for the track "Married Life").

The nominations and wins recognize the work and talent of composer Michael Giacchino in creating the spectacular music of the film.

This win cements Up's position as the frontrunner for the Best Original Score Oscar at the upcoming 82nd annual Academy Awards. On that point, Oscar nominations will be announced Tuesday morning at 8:30/5:30 PT and I'll have complete coverage as it relates to Up and Pixar. Stay tuned.

Quite exciting! And, as I already wrote about over at One Movie, Five Views, a record number of nominations for Michael Giacchino for the IMFCA Awards. 9 noms in 7 categories. (These include ones for Up, Star Trek, Lost, and Earth Days. And they don't release the Up soundtrack, except on digital download - odd marketing decision...

Full list of noms can be found here: http://filmmusiccritics.org/

Way to go Mr. Giacchino. We're huge fans, our two year old loves your music too and knows a "michael giacchino song when she hears one, we've taught her well. We're so glad he's part of the Pixar family.

Michael Giacchino is gaining major respect in film composing. Not only was I moved by his vision for Pixar's Up, I had no idea he did the music for Star Trek. Until I saw the credits...he has a bright future ahead of him!

Among many other things, I like the new music he wrote for Space Mountain at Disneyland.
