Two Annie wins for 'Up'

Up and director Pete Docter won the awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Director at the 37th Annual Annie Awards yesterday evening.

The Annie Awards, given out yearly by ASIFA-Hollywood, the Los Angeles chapter of the International Animated Film Society, are promoted as the animation industry's highest honour.

Since Up was nominated nine times, it's a bit disappointing to see it win only two awards, even if they are the most important ones. Two years ago, Ratatouille got thirteen nominations and won nine awards. But at least Up did better than WALL-E last year.

William T. Reeves received the juried Ub Iwerks Award for his work as a pioneer in the field of computer graphics at Pixar. The award was presented to him by Pixar president Ed Catmull.

See the list of all nominees and winners here.

Well done "UP"! Let's see how many Awards it will win on 7th march.I am very afraid of this Coraline animated film....

I find it hard to care about these awards after last year's snub.

@Anonymous: Are you afraid of the movie Coraline or afraid it will beat out Up? It was an excellent film, though it was a touch creepy.

I do hope that Up wins, though it does have some very tough competition...

Sadly it just winning two awards proves the only reason they awarded it any was to avoid being called on their favoritism/anti-Pixar-ness like last year.

I'm afraid too - of all of Up's heavy competition. I've seen all of the Animated Film Oscar nominees except two (guess which), and I think they're all great.

@ Jordan: Secret of Kells and Coraline?

I've seen and loved Coraline, The Princess and the Frog and Up. I have yet to see Fantastic Mr. Fox and Secret of Kells.
