Starting next month and going into May, Disney/Pixar will be screening the first 65 minutes of Toy Story 3 exclusively to college and university students across the U.S.A. The cut is being called the Special Cliffhanger Edition and will be shown at theatres near over 80 select schools in 22 states.
Details are up on Facebook, where three unusual themed teasers put together to promote the screenings can now be seen (reload page to watch each one).
Valid school ID will be required for admission; no recording devices will be permitted (including cell phones); and seating is strictly first come, first serve. You may, however, RSVP for the event and invite friends to share in the fun.
Love it. Can't even begin to go into why it's such a smart marketing strategy all around.

...and nothing for us in Canada yet again.
Maybe while you're at Pixar, you can tell them to do this in Canada!?
strange indeed. but boy oh boy did i LOVE those mock-trailers.
Wow, over nine very good colleges and they're not even coming to my STATE
Although I know it is going to be *UTTERLY PAINFUL* to not see the whole film, I know I can't pass this up! I'm going to the UCLA screening and will be in line approx. 12 hours beforehand, lol! SO EXCITED.
This makes me wish I went to college.
Brilliant marketing.
I have two problems with that:
1. I go to a community college (DVC) and the closest choice is Berkeley, second closest San José.
2. I have a class every Tuesday evening, which is when the Berkeley one is, from 6:00 to 8:45. The showing is 8:00-9:30, I think. The San José one is the next Wednesday night, so if I go, it'll have to be that one.
These was a great idea. I went to the one at my school and now I'm hooked!!! Been talking up a storm and wishing even harder for the release day.
I was actually one of the lucky ones to go to the Columbia one, but I don't go to any of the schools in New York.
