Without any accompanying explanation, Pixar's Newt was quietly deleted from the May 2010 supplement to Disney A to Z: The Official Encyclopedia by Disney archivist Dave Smith. This means that Newt is clearly on hold for now, if not permanently canceled as has been rumoured.Originally scheduled to be released in Summer 2011, then moved to 2012, the film was supposed to be the first Pixar feature directed by sound designer Gary Rydstrom, who previously directed the short film Lifted.
What a shame. If Newt has indeed been cancelled, it was a big mistake for the studio to announce it publicly.
Thanks Stitch Kingdom for the tip.

That's too bad. I hope it comes out one day. It's such a great premise, and Lifted was a wonderful short. I was really looking forward to this one.
Now that's depressing. I was honestly thrilled for newt, the concept intrigued me more than any of Pixar's other upcoming movies. So sad to see it go...
How unfortunate. Newt was the film I was most looking forward to on Pixar's slate. The premise was absolutely inspired if you ask me. They must have had a very compelling reason to shelve it.
Newt cancelled?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Wow, when I first read the synopsis for "Newt" I told my dad that the plot just didn't seem original enough. I didn't like "Lifted", either, so the director was also iffy for me. Now I see they've made a good decision!
Ah, man. I was looking forward to seeing Newt. I wonder why it was cancelled. It looked very interesting, which is why I'm disappointed now.
Please take your comments to the new post, thanks.
Wow, thats depressing. Sure, the plot wasn't that original, but the character designs, setting and overall feel I got from the plot and characters....
