'TS3' soundtrack NOT getting CD release

A Walt Disney Records spokesperson confirmed in an email that the Toy Story 3 soundtrack album will be available for purchase only as a digital download; no audio CD version will be sold. The album will be released on June 15.

In March, it appeared that the soundtrack would be released on CD after Amazon.com and other online retailers listed it for pre-order. It was subsequently removed and the product page deleted.

While this will surely disappoint many fans —I was "super excited" about a physical CD myself— it does probably make sense from a business standpoint for Disney to release such albums digitally.

I'm pretty disappointed, but it's nice to buy albums from iTunes anyways...

I hope this doesn't start an ongoing trend... :(

Then why did they release the Princess and the Frog on CD?!?

I hate Disney marketing!

the lack of production and distribution will be much better for the environment!!

honestly, as soon as I buy a new album, I upload it to my itunes, sync it to my ipod, and never need the physical cd again.

also, Steve Job's influence at Pixar leads me to believe he may be in on releasing Pixar soundtracks solely via digital media (itunes)???

I've never bought any music digitally. I don't have iTunes, I don't have an mp3 player, I like CDs just fine. I guess this approach was inevitable, but to me it feels too early.

I really wish there was a physical CD. CDs can hold so much more audio quality - 44.100 kHz at a 16 bit depth rate, a quality surpassed only by a 32-bit environment like source recordings.

The CD also gives you something tangible that you can stick into your car or stereo at your bedside. If all I have are a bunch of MP3s, no scratch that - WMAs, I have to spend time downloading them to my computer and then burn them back to a CD if I want a CD.

I am so disappointed, more disappointed than I was hearing this about Up. Gee this sucks, why does Disney have to do this? For crying out loud! I'm so disappointed...

Can someone please send an e-mail to Disney saying that people actually DON'T like it when they do this?

Wow that sucks for us collectors!!Oh well maybe they can do that for UP as well.

Does that mean the rumours of a three disc Toy Story soundtrack collection are false? Otherwise there could still be hope for a pressed CD.

This is entirely STUPID! WHY is Disney picking and choosing which of their movies get physical CD releases and which don't? If "Princess and the Frog" could get a CD release, I really fail to understand why neither "Up" OR "Toy Story 3" are being released on CD.

I think it's very sad.
I like music very much and I see myself as an audiophile. Not releasing the the soundtrack as a CD and only distribute it via itunes, amazon, etc will only mean one thing. A majour loss of audio quality because they (iTunes, Amazon and others) don't support FLAC or other Lossless audio formats.

Meh. Just a bad business decision.

Until they release a CD, I will continue to enjoy my illegally-downloaded copy.

I'm willing, even eager, to pay for this and the UP soundtrack, but I don't do downloads. What should scare Disney is that there are plenty of people like me.
