Toy Story 3 is now the second-best reviewed film ever on Rotten Tomatoes,
with a 99% "Fresh" score. 149 reviews have been counted, 147 positive to 2 negative or "Rotten". This is quite an achievement. Everyone at Pixar, starting with director Lee Unkrich, should be very proud of what they accomplished.
The t
wo negative reviews published today, however, cost 'TS3' it's perfect 100% "Fresh" score and
the title of "Best Reviewed Film of All Time" on RT, still held by predecessor Toy Story 2 after eleven years.
One of the negative items was written by the notorious hack Armond White, who has disparaged every single Pixar movie, and countless other films loved by critics.
The problem with him and the other contrarian is that their track records make clear they're doing it only for the attention it gets them.
An online petition by movie lovers to ban White from RT (a site he's criticized in the past) has already gathered about 1400 signatures; mine is #779.
Of course, these lone cynical opinions, which were to be expected, mean nothing. The ratio of positive reviews to negative makes clear who's right. But what really matters is audiences —you! So, if you've already seen Toy Story 3, What did you think?

It was an absolutely incredible movie. I'd consider it a masterpiece. Everything about it just was perfect.
The back of my throat was hurtin’ and there was much audible crying in the IMAX theatre! What a great movie.
Well, I came back from watching it a couple of hours ago and... Holly Mother of Wow!
I loved it. I loved that it made me laugh along with my friends and along with dozens of people I'll probably never meet again. I loved that it kept the hordes of children silent and focused for the whole screening (except the parts when they would laugh along). I loved that it reminded me of my own toys and my own experiences. I loved that it also made me cry like the baby I still am at heart. I loved that it opened my eyes to how I should close the cycle with my best friends who will graduate from college one year ahead of me...
I enjoyed the visuals even if I didn't watch it on 3D and IMAX. I enjoyed finding easter eggs as the movie went on. The music fits perfectly, the animation blew my mind (OMG with Lotso's fur!)...
It's amazing.
It's released here in Australia next week, and I am very much looking forward to it, trying very hard to stay away from spoilers (but articles often give away things without even realising it).
Usually international audiences have to wait until September for Pixar releases, so this factor alone is a rare treat.
Too bad about the film's 100% rating! We were waiting to see if Armond White would be reviewing this - and crashing the party...
What did we think though? 4/4 stars!
I think our name clicks through to our site where we reviewed it... It would be below the two TS3 book reviews.
It was absolutely amazing!! I've never felt so engaged in the fate of a group of movie characters. Much less animated characters. Or animated depiction of inanimate objects. I can't wait to see it again! While I can't say that it's my favorite Pixar film (WALL-E has the lead by a hair, for the moment anyways), it certainly stands right among the best. 2nd on my list.
*SPOILER ALERT*
I think the ending scene where Andy gives all his toys to Bonnie was the perfect (and I really mean perfect) way to end the movie. The two of them playing together was the sweetest thing I've ever seen. Congrats to Lee Unkrich and the team at Pixar for a job extremely well done.
Toy Story 3 was one of, if not the, greatest film i have ever seen in my life. It effectively combined action, suspense, comedy, and emotion to truly make a great film. I consider the Toy Story series now the greatest film trilogy ever created (I don't count The Lord of the Rings, because it wasn't an original Hollywood idea) because all three movies had their own plot, and could hold up their own, even if you hadn't ever seen another part of the series, and that's what films should do; provide you with a brand new story each and every time. I am for sure going to watch it 2 more times this weekend, and probably 10 times in theaters. It's like that one reviewer said, "It's the only film that I wanted to see again right after I had finished watching it." Anybody with even the slightest idea this won't live up to the first two, get rid of that idea right away. It is almost better than the first two. Seriously, go see it this weekend, you will not be disappointed.
Toy Story 3 <3 ... that is al!! :)
Going to see it tomorrow. I won't sleep tonight.
I signed to! This man just wants to be different from the other critics....I 'm sure he enjoyed 'ts3'!
It starts in Germany on July 29 :(
When everyone said the ending was going to leave you in tears, I really thought
SPOILER ALERT
one or more of the toys would be "dead" (broken beyond repair) or that the Woody and Buzz team really would be broken up for good. I did not see the real ending coming. I completely lost it by then, especially when they showed Andy playing with Woody again riding on his neck, remembering what it was like to play with them one final time before saying goodbye. Pixar stays at the top of the heap when it comes to making great movies.
And I gotta say it ... I love that Mr. Potato Head appears to always need to have a food-based body. WHo knew you could animate a walking tortilla that well?
P.S. Arnold White is an attention-seeking contrarian jackass. But a petition? Why? What's the point? He knows most people don't like his reviews. Just leave him to wallow in his own miserableness. I just don't get why the New York Press think he's worth keeping on.
Six Words: Fear the Monkey, Love the Crane. It may not make sense, but when you see the movie it will.
Armond White desperately needs to get kicked off RT. Aside from Coraline and a few other movies, he seems to love utter garbage, and he's doing it for attention. That's why I normally don't read his reviews-- they just give his site more traffic. The other critic seemed to be criticizing the 'intensity' of the movie, saying it's too scary for kids... how is that even good critique? Is he a kindergarten teacher? Pretty cocky calling himself the most intelligent critic right there on his site banner, too. (He also liked Marmaduke better than TS3!)
I'm going to see '3' today, and I'm sure it's a great movie. Just a shame it couldn't keep its 100% status, but I guess with all the trolls and hacks there these days, it was only a matter of time... let's just keep our fingers crossed that Mr. White won't publish reviews for the first two Toy Stories!
I saw it at the first midnight screening and loved it.
*SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS*
I love the way the first scene recalls the opening of Toy Story 1, but this time we see how it looks in Andy's imagination.
The realization that the remaining group is so small--and that one particular character has left them forever--startled the whole audience and right away let us know that this film's not going to sugar-coat its themes. Suddenly the reason for the recent change in the Midway Mania ride becomes very clear. Sarge's departure with his two remaining soldiers set the tone for what's to come.
The film's midsection was pure Toy Story perfection: Funny, thrilling and full of surprises. I loved all the new characters, especially Bonnie's. I was one of the many geeks in the crowd cheering and applauding when Totoro showed up. I think we all silently declared Bonnie the World's 2nd Coolest Kid (after Andy) at that point.
We get to see Buzz at his finest as he infiltrates the Sunnyside secret club. The P.O.W. parody chunk of the film was my least favorite element (meaning I loved it just a smidge less), but Potato Head's role in the escape was hilarious and brilliant, as was the monkey (yikes!) and the "musical hog" line.
I think it's very cool that Pixar had the guts to take what *could* have been one of the most marketable new characters in recent history, then reveal him as a colossal S.O.B. I can picture angry kids kicking the park walk-around character!
I found it a solid, great film, but was thinking it wasn't quite the tear-jerker I'd heard...until the last act began with the garbage truck's arrival. From that moment until the closing credits, I was on the edge of my seat with my eyes frequently watering up. Wow. That scene--you know the one I'm talking about--left me as speechless as the characters. It's one of the most emotional moments in all of animation and one of the best sequences in film history.
The conclusion was perfect. When Andy took the toys one by one and introduced them to Bonnie, the love and gratitude that still lives in his heart for "the gang" came across beautifully. When he got to Woody--introducing him and saying goodbye at the same time--Wow. Loved Andy's last words to his friends, and I loved the way the final image brings the trilogy full circle. The crowd roared with cheers and applause, and the awesome closing credit scenes had everyone leaving the theater with a smile. Everyone cheered again when Sarge and his two soldiers appeared (Yay! They're all right!)
It's one of the best films I've ever seen. Thanks, Pixar.
The movie was amazing! I loved every second of it and can't wait to see it again. Like most of the previews I had heard, I cried for the last half hour of the movie, as many did in my theater. When it was sad, it was sad and when it was happy, it was hilarious. Seemed like everyone had a great time. The kid in the seat next to me even got up and danced! Truly a great movie-going experience. Thanks Lee Unkrich and Pixar for another masterpiece!
Rich T: I believe yours is the longest comment ever posted on this site. Just the kind of thing I like to see.
I have so much to say, but no time to say it right now. I'll just mention that I absolutely LOVED this movie, more than I could have even anticipated -- and I was getting chills every time I thought about the movie!

** SPOILER **
Does anything else think it's possible (JUST POSSIBLE) that Bonnie could actually be Boo from MI?
My son and I saw the first IMAX screen available yesterday and loved it. I was surprised and delighted from start to finish. I can't think of a better ending, and it's one I truly didn't see coming. The Claw gag was perfect!
Loved all the Pixar in-jokes too. My favorite was all the toys from Tin Toy hiding from the toddler hoard under a sofa in the day care center. Only on screen a few seconds but it was the exact collection from all those years ago----updated quite a bit of course.
I loved toystory 3 sooooooooooooo much it made me cry like a baby with good tears and bad tear one sad part was wen andy played with his toys once more and said bye to his toy I would love sooooo much if they more movies with bonnie playing with the toys and when she goes 2 college and by then andy has kid she gives the toy to andy's kid and andy and his son play together for old time sake so I hope thee makers os toystory read this
I just saw this movie for the 2nd time this weekend, and I must say...I still teared up at the end. It seriously is just one of the best movies I've ever seen (scratch that...it IS the best). You have NO clue how incredibly relieved I am that my favorite movie franchise wasn't ruined by the infamous three-quel curse. (We all know how bad most of those are, compared to the first ones.)
*****SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER*****
The dump scene by far got to me. Every time they got dumped further and further down into this "Toy Story from Hell", the more horrified I became. When they fell into the pit of fire, I actually went "Oh no..." and covered my mouth. The moment Buzz took Jessie's hand with the emotion on their faces, and as the others took one another's, and finally when Woody took Buzz's hand, I was just speechless. Them looking at their firey grave, holding hands, and accepting their fate got to me in such a weird way. Maybe it was the fact that I NEVER, in a million years, expected a Toy Story movie to have a moment like that. It really leaves me speechless, even now. I. just. don't. know. what. to. say.
Also, the end scene when Andy is playing with Bonnie and 'their' toys was so touching that I couldn't help but smile and go "Oh gosh...", just to keep from crying. It's as though Woody and the gang went through that whole adventure and ended up getting exactly what they wanted...to be played with Andy just one more time. When Woody waved goodbye to Andy, and his breath hitched a little, I couldn't speak or move my eyes from the screen. When Andy said "Thanks guys...", well...
I lost it.
I ended up crying, because it's what the toys needed to hear, it's what Andy needed to say, and it's what needed to happen to make this THE best movie I have ever seen in my life.
The end shot with the clouds was so fitting, because it ended where it began...and yet it was beginning for them all over again. It was also me, saying goodbye to my favorite movie franchise of all time, knowing I'm just like Andy. I'm letting go of something I held dear to me for all of my childhood, and it didn't help with my crying bit. It was everything I was hoping for, and so much more.
*****END OF SPOILER*****
Can you tell I love this movie? HA! :-D
PS: I still get the teensiest inkling that Andy knew his toys were alive. I know, farfetched, but I can't help it...the way he acts towards them and says things just makes me wonder. Either that, or I wanted him to know. Oh well. :)
I saw it today and it was honestly one of the best times I've had at the movies in my life. I absolutely loved it. Bravo Pixar!
It was so brilliant to embed different levels to engage the younger age group, the lesson of sticking together, taking care of your toys and not treating others as less than and the older age group, the lesson that it's okay to let go.
Parents beware. It is not for everyone. I was amazed that so many adults were in the theatre without kids but they were laughing out loud at various spots throughout the movie. I agree with the other viewers that as an adult the movie is totally engaging. But it should not have been rated G. It is not for young children. I had my four year old granddaughter with me who was horrified, cried and wanted to leave. It had grown up themes that had I known were incorporated in the film, I would not have taken a four year old. At lunch the following day, a teacher asked my granddaughter if she should take her daughter to see it and my granddaughter said, "NO! It is too scary".
The last few minutes of the film made me cry, it was just so perfect. If you have ever really loved a toy you will see what i mean.
1 wait... 2...no 3 words AMAZING BEST SAD! Amazing as in graphics, sound, and action, best as in movie ever, touching Pixar film and Sad as in well i was crying through about three parts the flashbacks of Andy playing with them the dump part and the end with bonnie a good ending and all together all around great movie! Before this The Dark Knight was my favorite movie but WOW this is #1! Great Job Pixar and... don't mean to be a killjoy but NOT looking forward to cars 2!
I'm sorry guys, but Toy Story 2 shouldn't even have had a %100 in the first place. If you look on Metacritic there are two mixed reviews that should count as a rotten reviews. I've also read TS 3 reviews that say they didn't like the last installment because Woody chose to stay with Andy in TS 2 but asked RT to give it a fresh so they wouldn't look like trolls like Mr. White.
