Reader Christine Free, who works near Pixar's Emeryville, CA headquarters, just shared with me these new pictures of the Phase II expansion being built on the Pixar campus.
You can see the new building, scheduled to open for work in the spring, is really starting to take shape. Scaffolding has been removed from part of the structure.

So what are they going to do with the new building??
Click the link on the words "being built" for the best available information.
I've heard rumors that this new facility is directly connected with Disney/Pixar's recently signed long-term contract with director Henry Selick.
more movies? is probably.
Pixar has been growing steadily since moving into their current facility, and their building is currently slightly overcrowded (though what Pixar considers overcrowded would be considered luxurious by most studios). They've slightly increased their hiring rates lately both due to the new building and the plan to move to a two movie a year schedule, but the new building doesn't mark any super radical change.
How would you happen to know this, kevin?
I attend California College of the Arts, which is about two miles away from Pixar, and last semester took a class from a Pixar technical director (Andrew Dayton). I can't remember why, but for some reason the subject of the new building came up after class one day.
Good to hear that you got some solid info, Kevin. Too bad it's not more exciting.
Hm? What happened???
Looks a bit depressing! Kinda reminds me of bad 50's thru 70's architecture! I guess Steve had nothing to do with these?
Too bad! :-(
