The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced this morning nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Toy Story 3 was nominated in a single category—Best Animated Feature Film. The HFPA really made some puzzling, downright insane choices this year. The most egregious example is in the Best Motion Picture—Comedy Or Musical category.
Toy Story 2 took home the prize in 1999, and Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles were all nominated in their respective years. But this year two universally panned movies got the nod instead of 'TS3'.
Today's nominations were derided the world over, from film critics like Peter Howell of the Toronto Star mocking the "farcical" nature of this year's nominations to Hollywood insider Nikki Finke calling the Globes "a completely meaningless awards show by a scandal-riddled organization".
The Golden Globes presentation is set to take place on Sunday, January 16 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. It will be telecast live on NBC in the United States.

Gulp. I don't want the Golden Globes to get corrupted the way the Annies have.
Let's hear it for Toy Story 3!!!
I have a hard time seeing anyone describing TS3 as a comedy or musical with a straight face.
More importantly, How to Train Your Dragon (which wasn't just a rehashing of Toy Story 2) was nominated!
Somebody please respond to the appalling comment made by Anonymous.
Thank you for giving me permission, Mike... ;)
I couldn't disagree more, Anonymous, about you thinking that TS3 is a rehashing of TS2. As a matter of fact, I find them completely different movies. Only one reference to TS2 is the fact that the villain isn't who we think it is. And although HtTYD is great, you think it's more important than TS3?
As Mike said... appalling.
Sure thing Mike!
Hey anonymous, shut the @#!* up!!!
Toy Story 3 was ineligible for the Best Picture- Comedy or Musical Globe. As of this year, animated films are no longer eligible for that award. So it was no snubbed, it could not be nominated.
Okay Mike, here I go :-)
How to Train Your Dragon is a groundbreaking film. It has pioneered the idea of making high quality films at Dreamworks Animation. It was their first that I really enjoyed.
However, Toy Story 3 also is a groundbreaking film. It is one of the few times that a film followed by the number '3' even has a chance at Best Picture.
I like both How to Train Your Dragon and Toy Story 3...
I am a great fan of Pixar only because I appreciate the consistent high-quality of their films. It doesn't matter to me which studio made a movie as long as it is high-quality.
@Anonymous: Perhaps if you had watched both Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, you have perceived some slight differences between the two...
It would take me hours to do that, Mike.
I thought animated films were no longer eligible to be nominated for best pic at the Globes?
You should correct your blog. As pointed out previously, Toy Story 3 was limited to the animation best movie category and could not be nominated in the comedy category. But you CAN complain about that limitation.
