The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (EW) contains a first look at Pixar's upcoming Toy Story short, Hawaiian Vacation, in theatres with Cars 2 on June 24.IndieWire's The Playlist blog provides online readers with low quality scans of two stills from the short, including the one shown above.
Notably, the EW piece names Gary Rydstrom as the director of Hawaiian Vacation. Rydstrom, an Academy Award-winning sound designer, previously directed Lifted and was helming Newt until it was cancelled last year.

Interesting, so this is Gary Rydstrom's baby? It also means it's very UNLIKELY he's directing Monsters, Inc. 2. Hmmmm...

Rydstrom is surely a talent. "Lifted" was one of the two truly great Pixar shorts (Presto was the other, and by far the best short they have ever produced). Day&Night is good...but I don't it is nearly as great. Those older two contain a great narrative compressed into a few short moments.
Any chance that Lifted gets a feature film treatment? It'd be original and refreshing to see after the upcoming string of Pixar sequels
I think I've realized why Newt was canceled. Not because it's not a lovely idea, but because the movie "Rio" is coming out soon and is essentially the same idea - last of his species, must breed with someone with a very different personality than he has, and even is also blue!
I sure hope Rio bombs at the box office for destroying a potential great Pixar film...
