Cars 2 "Agents on a Mission" Tour

Disney/Pixar have partnered with State Farm Insurance to bring life-size remote-controlled replicas of Cars 2 stars Lightning McQueen, Mater (pictured), and Finn McMissile (watch) as part of a multi-city tour announced this evening.

According to the press release, the cars are the largest radio-controlled models ever built, weighing in between 1,760 and 2,700 lbs. Each can travel for 30 minutes on electrical power at speeds up to 10 miles per hour.

The "Agents on a Mission" tour kicks off this coming Tuesday, March 22, at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. It will makes stops in 30 North American cities, including Boston, Detroit, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Toronto, and Washington, DC. (Complete list of cities is up at Disney.com/Cars.)

The replicas will also be on show at the red-carpet World Premiere of Cars 2 in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 18, with the tour wrapping up thereafter in San Francisco and Sonoma, CA.

Besides checking out the cars, visitors will be able to "take part in a variety of Cars 2-themed activities, including a video kiosk, e-photo opportunities, games and giveaways", and "a sweepstakes featuring 18,000 prizes, including a new car."

Additional sponsors on the tour are Goodyear, which will be outfitting the models with tires, and Mack Trucks, which is assisting in transporting them from coast to coast.

Very cool! I have not seen the remote control cars, but I work at State Farm and did see (stationary) life-sized replicas like the one pictured with Michael Caine in the Toy Fair video. We had Lightning McQueen at my building earlier this month, and other locations had Finn and Mater. Five years ago I also got to see a replica of Sally.

They are impressive in person! The detail is amazing and they leave you wishing that they could move and talk... Seeing them move via remote control would be a lot of fun.

Makes sense that Pixar would partner with State Farm again, since they did it in 2006.

"Maybe you need a different kind of agent... like maybe a 'good neighbor'."
Remember that?

I had a friend go to the St Louis stop, and she waited in line in the freezing cold for 2 hours, and then only got to see the cars, roped off, 10 feet away, turned off. Just an FYI. It's still a pretty cool site to behold, but there was no movement. so I don't know that the 2 hr wait is worthwhile if you're looking for them to be in action.
