Exclusive: Cars 2 soundtrack to feature two original songs; CD release planned

The Cars 2 soundtrack will feature two original songs from the film, a person familiar with the matter tells me.

The songs will be by performed by different artists. One will be "a duet by two male artists", one of whom appeared on the soundtrack to the original Cars.

So that narrows it down to Chuck Berry, Brad Paisley, John Mayer, James Taylor, Randy Newman, or one of the guys from Rascal Flatts or The Chords. Easy.

Walt Disney Records plans to release the album on CD and for download on June 14—a departure from the recent practice of releasing Pixar soundtracks only as digital downloads.

Love this post Mike... Has there been any confirmation that indeed Michael Giacchino is doing the music by Disney or Pixar?

Absolutely--Michael Giacchino is composing.

Wow, I was never one to care much about the death of the CD format, I had little problem with them not releasing an UP and TS3 CD, but to go back to the format for cars 2 tell me their only doing this because the average redneck isn't savvy enough to use i-tunes and the like. And its pretty lame I think for them to pick and choose which of their movies gets a CD and what doesn't. All I'm really asking for is consistency.

Awesome! Maybe my written letter to Pixar telling them to do some physical CD releases paid off, or it's just a coincidence. :P

So, MIke, we only know that one of the two songs is the "male duet" featuring one artist from Cars?
Does that mean the other new song is a completely new artist? Or am I misunderstanding this?

Yeah, that's how I understand it.

well Kyle, one of those rednecks must be me because i dont have anything to put itunes on. im really glad that they gave this soundtrack a cd format because i can listen to the awesome music, WITHOUT itunes.

Michael Giacchino doing a spy movie? Well actually, such influences were in Incredibles--and he did M.I.III so this isn't exactly unfamiliar territory for him. That theme we heard at the beginning of the new trailer, as long as I hear something along the lines of that, it should be fine.

That's a surprise to see Cars 2 being on CD format... unless they change their mind within three months.

"because the average redneck isn't savvy enough to use i-tunes and the like" - maybe the average person isn´t *stupid* enough to pay for a download, when they can get much better - and lasting! - quality for the same money?
