I've got bad news for anyone who's been looking forward to attending a pre-release charity screening of Cars 2 at Pixar: it looks like they're not happening.Pixar usually hosts the events—basically the only way for the public to visit the studios—a few weeks before the next film opens in theatres. The screenings benefitting the Emery Ed Fund and the San Francisco Film Society are some of the most well known. But this year will be different. A spokesperson for Emery Ed tells me:"I'm sorry to share the sad news that Pixar is behind on its production of Cars 2 and therefore cannot host a pre-release for us this year. We are hoping that they will open up the studios after the release, however, nothing has been arranged yet."
While this delay won't affect the movie's opening in theatres on June 24, its unfortunate for the organizations and the people wanting to supporting them by attending one of these special events.

Update: Commenter "nriley01" points out that there will be a gala screening benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) on June 11. However, attendance to this event is limited; individual tickets (not yet on sale) are $1000.
But if it's within your budget, this is an evening you absolutely want to be a part of, as made clear by these pictures from last year's Toy Story 3 gala, which was held weeks earlier, in May.

This is really unfortunate.
If this really is true, could you not have waited a day to report it? Today, after all, is April Fools' Day.
I thought some people might think that. But it's not a joke, unfortunately.
That is very sad news! I've gone to the last 2 EmeryEd prescreening events and they are awesome! And it's most likely the only way I will get into the studios. Maybe I'll have to wait for the Cartoon Art Museum event in the fall.
I should also say that, if true, it's also sad for the organizations. They are great fund-raising events for worthwhile causes and I'm sure will be a big impact to them. Hopefully they'll find a way to have some sort of event, maybe after the release.
Aw man that sux. I went to the Toy Story 3 chicago screening last year and it was a fantastic experience. Let's just hope they're able to do it for their releases next year. :)
