Cars 2 research trip: Tokyo

In October 2009, following the research trip to Europe, Cars 2 production team members traveled to Tokyo, Japan to get a sense of the culture and environment there.

(Read this expansive interview with story supervisor Nate Stanton for more on the 15-city European tour, which included the stops in Italy and London.)

Below are selected photographs from the trip, courtesy of Disney/Pixar.

How do you say "Mind the Gap" in Japanese?

Nathan Stanton seems to confirm pretty clearly that Doc Hudson is dead...

The concept art looks even better than the real thing!

It requires a "crazy one" to see a "car" in the Imperial Palace.... Bravo...

I heard a great news that Perfume's Polyrythm is involved with Cars2. Awesome! I wonder who recommended this song?

The one with the Imperial Palace... wow. The car theme is worked so subtly into the design that it reads as the real thing on first glance. Only when you look closer do you see the car elements. And the closer you look, the more you see. This is good art.
