More images of Pixar Phase II expansion + new details

As the project nears completion, design firm Allied Works Architecture has posted new images of the Pixar Phase II expansion on its website.

These include rough sketches, renderings, and construction photos. (Note that the above photo is not very recent.) Hopefully we'll be getting some shots of the completed interior when it opens to employees later this spring.

The Pixar Times got a special tour last week and shares the news that "Pixar films that are in pre-production will be moved to 'Brooklyn' [the studio's internal name for the new building], while the films that are closest to release will remain at the main building."

As a side note, I was recently able to uncover the total cost of the expansion in an obscure construction industry document: $80 million. That includes the $15 million in materials and equipment that I reported on back in 2009.

Hmmm. I wonder how this fits with Pixar's previous idea of having everyone in the same building, forcing them to walk through the atrium and bump into other people...

I visited the studio last summer and saw the early construction. A humbling experience. Two nights ago I dreamt I finally got hired at Pixar. I was so happy - last night I dreamt that my feet got cut off and I had to put them in plastic bags in the freezer. Why am I telling you all this? Because I am BORED AT WORK.
