Cars 2 soundtrack artists announced

Disney announced this afternoon details on the music of Cars 2 and the artists who will bring their talents to its highly-anticipated soundtrack album.

In addition to Michael Giacchino's original score, Cars 2 will feature music by country star Brad Paisley, British solo artist Robbie Williams, alternative rockers Weezer, French singer/songwriter Bénabar, and Japanese girl pop group Perfume.

Paisley and Williams perform a duet called "Collision of Worlds". "It’s an international kind of song that’s inspired very much by the film," says Williams in the press release.

A second song, "Nobody’s Fool," is written and performed by Paisley, who drew inspiration from what he calls "the most heartbreaking scene in the movie," which is about Mater painfully realizing that others think he's an idiot.

Weezer perform a cover of The Cars' 1984 hit "You Might Think".

For more international flavour, Giacchino co-wrote a song in French titled "Mon coeur fait vroum" ("My Heart Goes Vroom") that introduces Paris in the film. The song is performed by Bénabar.

Perfume’s Japanese single "Polyrhythm" will be heard as Lightning McQueen and Mater attend the World Grand Prix opening night gala in Tokyo.

The Cars 2 soundtrack album will be available on CD and download from Walt Disney Records on June 14.

"...Mater painfully realizing that others think he's an idiot." Oh man, Pixar's going to make me cry again!

Such an eclectic mix of musicians. I would love to see a feature on how Pixar picked this artists. :D

@ Anonymous: They wouldn't fit with the themes of Up and TS3, now would they? Each artist represents a country in the race so it makes sense.

(Can't evne imagine what a J-pop group would be doing on an Up OST if that happened...)

The first Cars has such a great soundtrack (I get chills when I watch the opening scene with "Real Gone!"), so I'm really looking forward to listening to the music for Cars 2! And with Michael Giacchino composing the score this time, that just gets me even more excited! I also love how they're going to incorporate music from the different countries in the World Grand Prix; that should keep it fresh and interesting!

And what's this about Mater realizing that everyone thinks he's an idiot? Well, that'll be incredibly depressing. :( But at least it'll probably be a nice character developing moment for him. This movie can't come out fast enough!

Besides Brad Paisley returning from Cars, Robbie Williams is also returning - from Finding Nemo. (He sang "Beyond the Sea".)

This is such a huge deal for the Perfume fandom. I'm not sure if Pixar realizes what an impact they're making.

I always think they should make Cars to match the artists on the cd. Like Paisley would be some sort of country-inspired car. Mostly, I want there to be a Car of John Mayer who sang on the first cd.

I'm happy to see they used "You Might Think" from the band The Cars.
