Cars 2 reviews at THR & Variety

Following its world premiere last night at the El Capitan Theatre, the first reviews of Cars 2 have been published at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.

THR's Todd McCarthy calls the film "another Pixar winner" where "the visual, verbal and musical jokes practically exceed the speed limit."

Justin Chang at Variety concurs: "Unexpectedly delightful... The rare sequel that not only improves on but retroactively justifies its predecessor."

Keep an eye out for lots more reviews (including my own) in the coming week. Cars 2 opens in theatres on Friday.

All of my friends are still skeptical about Cars 2.

Sounds great!

Hmmm... It "retroactively justifies its predecessor?"

Am I the only one around here who actually liked the first Cars?

No, Anonymous 2.0, you're not. Cars is one of the best films Pixar has made to date.

One possibility besides the fact that this reviewer didn't like the first Cars is the possibility that the sequel is so great that it actually is far better. And based on what I've seen so far--and considering the last time Pixar did a "2" movie--I believe it.

I still don't think it's going to be anything special, I mean, you forgot to mention the bad review it got, and the fact that the average is only 6/10.

I liked Cars from the Get Go, and now, after seeing it again around...maybe 40+ times on DVD/Blu-Ray with my young son, I have to say it holds up. There is always something new to look at or enjoy. We've been looking forward to Cars 2 since last year's Pixar Blog first posting.

No Anonymos 2.0, you aren't. I loved the first cars. One of my favorite pixar movies. Although it does have a childish theme, thats not really a bad thing though is it? Because all of the kids i know who are boys love the first one too, of course their little kids, not awesome movie fanatics like us guys who read mikes awesome blog!

The problem with Cars is not the "childish theme".
Monsters Inc is about creatures lurking behind your beds.
Toy Story is about antiquated toys.

The issue with Cars is that the story is treated in a childish and plain way.
Dialogs are dull.
The character development is lazy and relies too much on the funny look of the cars.
And all the situations feel like rip offs.

Judging by the trailer, I'm afraid Cars 2 is no better : emphasis is made on exotic characters, cameos, gadgets and easy explosions.

I'm nowhere near the excitement i felt when I first saw the trailer for Up.

Well, of course, I hope I'm wrong.

Hello this a kids movie. Pixar keep up with your great work. Our whole family loves your movies. To the other adults reviewing a kids movie get a life! If you don't like the movie don't watch it go see a grown up movie and leave the great family movies up to pixar.
