Pixar faced a big challenge when translating and dubbing Cars 2 into nearly 45 foreign languages: Mater.
Larry the Cable Guy's 'American bumpkin' wouldn't translate right.

I say offend people, and make people angry at Pixar for Cars 2.
But wait, didn't the first Cars already have international voices? Why not just cast the same voices over again?
Yeah, good point Anonymous #2. How was Cars 2 such a problem when Cars likely faced the same problem 5 years ago and, presumably, figured it out?
Mater was less important in the first Cars. If international audiences found his Americaness confusing, it wouldn't ruin the film for them.
I saw first one here in Serbia and it was professionally done by well known Serbian actors. It was fun to watch without any lags or mistakes. Hope to take my kids again and enjoy watching part 2.
In Poland where I live Mater ("Złomek" in Polish) talks with a country/farmer type acent mix with diffrent expresions low educated people use
...wouldn't the correct title of this be "Mater lost in translation in Cars 2?" They had to change him in order for other people to get the humor...I would call that lost in translation! haha
Let's face it, there isn't anything about Pixar all these days because Cars 2 has been a mistake in a lot of senses. Probably the Oscar will go to Happy Feet Two or something. Hate the sequels, even when they are 'good'.
I saw both "Cars" in spanish and I love Mater's voice... The actor performs it with an innocence and charm worthy of the character. I actually don't like that much Mater's voice in English... he's so endearing in spanish.
I agreed with Mr. Snapple.Because of Cars 2 being the first and biggest fail in Pixar history,most of us are either fast forwarding to Brave and your surprise for the fall or are weeping at Pixar's fall. Sorry Mike,but I could care less about Mater's translation matters or that Giacchino Twitter account. For once,I looking forward for another company to win Best Animated Feature this year.
It is all quite jolly and fast-paced, a feast for the eyes, but there's not much for the mind or the heart.
i love pixar and disney but this movie has not got any heart and i can see what other people mean about them having other international characters like luigi and guido for instance. no one was lost in translation with luigi and guido so why are they for mater?

Yeah it sounds risky, and if you try to do that in 45 countries... ;) Imagine yourself! I am Polish and I can imagine without any problems what kind of person with what kind of accent should borrow their voice to Mater:)
The film's Mater had a slightly different accent, but still really cool:) I loved the film, and am happy that professional translation agencies are used for translations of such challenging texts!
