Toy Story 4 coming in 2015?

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is listing Toy Story 4 as being in development at Pixar for release in 2015.

While IMDb can be grossly inaccurate, the listing of a Pixar project usually foreruns the proper announcement. For example, "Monsters, Inc. 2" was listed nearly a year before Monsters University was revealed.

More importantly, this comes on the heels of Tom Hanks' authoritative comments last month that he 'understands Toy Story 4 is happening'.

Are you ready for another big screen adventure with Andy's Bonnie's toys?

Part of me says, YES! and part says NO! I love Toy Story, its what got me into the Pixar run to start with, BUT on the other hand, another part says, We already have THREE Toy Story's, TWO Cars, TWO (Soon)Monsters.... lets work on getting some new characters and storylines to love. Granted, I think each sequel is been done really well and I enjoy them immensely, but Im looking for something Fresh and New!

Oh my word, I can't believe this could be happening. Please, Pixar. No more sequels after this. They've all been wonderful, but I feel like a 4th would undo ALL the emotions of the 3rd.

No! Please no! End the series on a high note and leave it as it is! The ending was a conclusion. Don't touch it. It was perfect.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Toy Story movies. But if this is true, it's unbelievably horrible news.

First, because the Toy Story trilogy ended perfectly. No need for anything else to be said (not counting the shorts).

Second, and most importantly, because it sickens me to see Pixar becoming a sequel machine. Even when they sequels are good, like TS3 was, they're losing what makes them stand out, which is such fantastic, original ideas. Make a sequel every few years if you must, but not practically every single year.

And for God's sake, Pixar, if you MUST make sequels, make one for the only one of your movies that is truly tailored for a sequel, The Incredibles.

Just my (strongly worded) opinion!

Disgusting.

i really really hope this isn't true. the third film ended everything so well. what else is there left to be explored from these characters?

LimeiBook86 said...

The Toy Story toons idea is a great way for these characters to live on. I'd rather have that then another Toy Story film. The only way I can see them doing one is maybe a prequel, but even then I'm very hesitant. I'd like a sequel to the Incredibles much more then I would any other Pixar film, only because it fits so well. They have to relocate, what's happening next? Perfect picking for a sequel.

TS3's ending was perfect. I don't think they're about to change that. IMDB can be wrong, it has before, many, many times before. So I'm confident it'll all be alright.

The sequels were made for being 3 at most. I hate the idea. I know Pixar CAN think in new ideas, I don't know if they WANT.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... *keeps screaming for all eternity*

This very upsetting, as I think that Pixar is starting lose its integrity.

Nope! I have no desire to see another Toy Story movie. I absolutely loved the first three, but that was completed tale that needs no further add-ons or roads to explore. Sure a short or two here or there will be fine and fun to revisit familiar and uniquely loved characters. But a full movie. No thank you.

Thanks You Pixar please make it it is the best news in the franchise of Toy story and Pixar i didnt like how it ending in toy story 3 i Hope TOY STORY $ changes everything

I don't like the idea of a 4th film. On the other hand for those who say "make another new brilliant film" may know that to do this fantasti film, you need money and sequels are cheap, and make money. Want another good film? First pay for the sequel and with the money they'll do that film.

Goppy said...

Just because you read it on IMDB doesn't make it true.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756681/

There is a Magnum, P.I. movie listed on there as being in development and coming out this year. And that sure ain't happening.

Toy Story $

Anonymous said...

Thanks but no thanks. Don't want or care to see another toy story movie, and I have no plans on buying any more toy story toys or merchandise either. This is all about selling merchandise and I'm certain this will backfire if true.

People (including myself) went merchandise crazy for the last film, won't happen again. Sorry.

Pixar is doomed. Seriously. They've sold out.

Jordan said...

Guys - EVERYONE... Calm down. Don't prejudge without seeing at least some clips and a trailer.

Cars 2 wasn't that bad. Do you honestly think that Pixar would make a truely terrible film? Cars 2 wasn't "terrible". None of their films will be terrible, ever.

Case in point: The shelved film Newt. They must have seen a potential story problem, so they didn't go forward with it. They wouldn't release a film that they weren't proud of, and we all know they have high standards for their films.

If a Toy Story 4 is made, it will not be horrible, and just like every other Pixar film before it, it will be (at the very least) a good film.

The last point I'd like to make: Before WALL-E, Up, and Toy Story 3 came out, people were crying out that it was the "end of Pixar", and that "this will be Pixar's first flop!" You know what I have to say to comments like that? I've said it already in this mini-essay, but I'll say it again. My message to whiny comments like those are:
SHUT UP!!! Do you know what happened with those films? They went on to be critically acclaimed and win a lot of awards, including "Best Picture" nominations from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Seriously. Have some faith and trust in Pixar, people. Give them the benefit of the doubt.

You doubters disgust me.

Anyone check domain registries? When Monsters Inc 2 was first announced, rumors were about on IMDB, then the domains were bought up. Just a thought.

ughhh part of me is sort of excited a thtis prospect, but then again... They left toy story on such a FLAWLESS note. like everythin wrapped up perfectly in an extremely awesome way. I think they would just ruin the significance of the third one if they made a fourth :[
ya, not really liking the trend of sequels, they should definitely put more focus on more originals like Brave <3

Anonymous said...

No no no no no... Just... No. Pixar please do not do this. Don't let the Toy Story franchise become the Shrek franchise.

Anonymous said...

no please just move on from the past

There is only one way to bring them back on track - boycott TS4! Nobody who loves Pixar and/or Animation should see it (that´s wishful thinking, of course - it will make a billion dollars and clear the way for TS 5... I feel like crying, seriously...)

Alexandro Fantino said...

Not happening. I mean, they're not stupid at Pixar, they wouldn't ruin it. Besides, Ed Catmull is always stating that making sequels is not their style. I think Monsters University will put an end to this sequel spate, and the next sequel we'll be hearing about is The Incredibles 2.
You read it here first.

bonnie play with them her grow up they find another kid.... again
i hope they calcel this or make a movie between 2 and 3
and i want a secuel of the incredibles and more original movies

I can't believe Pixar sold out =( Cars 2 might have been the beginning of the end, you guys.

Anonymous said...

Frankly I don't want another Toy Story sequel either - the third movie had a magnificent story and end and if a Toy Story movie is now in production, God have mercy on us.

However, I think that Pixar shouldn't just have to be under our judgment, why? because many know that the Toy Story franchise also belongs to Disney - remember that Disney had plans for TS2 with or without Pixar's mediation - which fortunately Pixar came in the last second.

TOY STORY 4 Hope its true cause listen everyone pixar is not like dreamworks by screwing up a franchise like shriek or steven spielberg by messing up the indiana jones series wit the aliens JUST QUIT your complaining Pixar never went bad with toy story movies before so stop saying No to a Toy Story 4 and start saying YES cause if you keep saying NO then if your the ones keep complianing about pixar making Toy Story 4 then truley your not true Toy Story fans like the one that love the Toy Story Series and want to see the characters on the big screen again
TOY STORY FOREVER

Mark said...

No. I don't want it.

JAY Hosh said...

@Jordon, I personally do not think that TS4 will be a bad movie, if it is made then it will probably be a great movie. It's just the fact that I don't want another one. I'd rather have it end on the third, because like most Pixar fans will say, the ending was pretty top notch. I'm not prejudging the movie, I'm prejudging the IDEA of the movie. I didn't judge Wall-e, Up or TS3 because I trust Pixar and knew that they could handle it. But I do agree with you on Cars 2, in fact, I loved the movie. But of course critics thought that Pixar making a film different than their usual style was a bad thing. I'll end by saying that if Pixar wants to make a Toy Story 4 then they can go right on ahead, I just would rather have them make an original project instead.

Anonymous said...

To the Anonymous who said the people that don't want TS4 aren't true TS fans, is grossly inaccurate. Just because we don't want a continuation of a series that already had good closure, doesn't make us fans? BULL. It's because we don't want TS4 that we are true fans! Creating another sequel would basically treat the third one as if it was pointless. The third one was the closure for everyone. No more sequels. It makes no sense. Hell, I'm probably one of the biggest fans out there. I remember going to both TS movies in theaters as a child, and I went to the third one as a late teen/young adult wearing a Jessie hat crying my eyes out. And I still have all my TS toys in my room. Plus I own every movie both on VHS and DVD So you can't say that the naysayers to sequels aren't true fans, because the true fans know when to stop with the series. And we know, it needs to stop at three movies. So TS4 = NO. OH GOD NO.

treefrog said...

I'm not happy about TS4 either, but I love Pixar and I trust them. And why wouldn't they want to make a TS4? Toy STory was their FIRST film and it was a huge accomplishment! The gang at pixar probably feels especially connected to Woody and the Toy Story gang because of this and want to keep them alive.
However… I really think they should stop with the sequels…

Hey, latest anon, ever heard of too much of a good thing (in this case a fantastic thing)?

The Toy Story movies are my favorite movies and I LOVED the new short, but I do not want them to make another feature. Do I think it would be awful? No. Do I think it would be as good as the first 3? Can't see that happening. I don't really want to see a Toy Story movie without Andy.

And don't give me this 'true fan' crap. You can be a fan of something without wanting it to go on forever.

This post has the most comments I have ever seen on this blog, all in a very short span, and most of then negative. I, too, think that this is not the direction Pixar should be going in. I guess D23 will clear some things up for us...

Mike, what is your take?

Anonymous said...

They can come back and do it in 10 years if they feel very strongly about it (ala TS3). Do TS4 right after TS3 would be highly Dreamworks-esque (and to be fair, Cars-esque), and no doubt will be viewed as a cash grab.

Highly opposed.

oh good-ss, i think another toy story movie would be good but are there any other story-lines to make a story 4?. also it would ruin the ending to toy story 3, although it says the that the toy's lives will continue it does'nt mean to say we need another movie. i will be honest all of the pixar movies and pixar it-self are great but would a toy story 4 be good?.

Obviously, Toy Story 4 will deal with the toys' total abandonment, not only by Bonnie, but by humanity. And yes, the final act will involve the toys being turned into neat little cubes by an army of WALL•Es. Only Rex and Hamm survive.

Of course, there will not be a dry eye in the theater. It will be known as the saddest film ever; tears will be shed at the mere mention of it.

For the sake of humanity, I pray that Toy Story 4 does not happen.

I absolutely agree I've had enough sequels. TS3 was too perfect, why ruin that?
And if they are SO sequel crazy, why are thy talking about TS4 before considering an Incredibles 2, the film that most warrants a sequel IMO.

i think the toy story toons are a good idea but another film? i think pixar should give it a pass.
i also think that pixar should create new characters and move on, start new storys and create great adventures and emotions.

@ Jordan.

Disgust? Over them not trusting a movie company. Rather patehtic aren't you?

In the case of TS4- I'd rather not, granted while I liked TS3 I actually preferred the other two.

Cars 2 was perhaps okay if it had been a general movie in its own right, nothing special bar the detailed animation at all- but as a sequel it kind of fails very hard in terms of being consistant with moral messages when put up against the original cars.

Personally I don't think Pixar can do no wrong- there have been a few movies they've had I wasn't keen on. Most of the time they're onto a winner in my case, but for me, they're not perfect nor incapable of doing wrong.

*rolls eyes like a petulant teenager :P*
