Victory for Disney/Pixar in Cars lawsuit

Self-proclaimed British screenwriter Jake Mandeville-Anthony has lost his frivolous lawsuit against Disney and Pixar.

The case was dismissed in its entirety yesterday.

In his complaint, filed in March, Mandeville-Anthony alleged that Pixar stole the idea for the Cars franchise from him, thereby infringing his copyright.

After reviewing the facts of the case, the presiding judge dismissed the suit "with prejudice", preventing it from going to jury trial or ever being refiled.

"Defendants have sufficiently shown that the Parties' respective works are not substantially similar in their protectable elements as a matter of law," wrote U.S. District Court Judge Valerie Baker Fairbank in her ruling.

Translation: Disney’s attorneys proved that Mandeville-Anthony’s works, reportedly riddled with crude language and dialogue and highly offensive racial stereotypes, were very different from Cars.

Oh well, that just sucks. This lawsuit was the only way I could see Pixar being innocent of making such a bad movie, though guilty of copyright infringement. However, their innocence would make up for their guilt. (Yeah, I can feel all the 'true fans' glaring at me. I'm a jerk, I know.)

Yes! That's awesome news. I knew Pixar would win, I mean, anybody can create cars with eyes!

I was thinking the same thing Alexandro- it would have been a good way to lay blame for how such a lame story made it on the screen: "Um...It's all HIS fault! That guy who wrote the story has NOTHING to do with us, nothing at all! Here! Take the credit, PLEASE!" Heheh.

Greatly looking forward to Brave though.
