Untitled Pixar film coming May 30, 2014

THR and Box Office Mojo are reporting that The Walt Disney Studios has slated another unannounced Pixar feature for release on May 30, 2014.

This feature and the secret November 27, 2013 film will give shape to Pixar's post-Brave slate, which is likely to be announced at the D23 Expo in Anaheim next week.

It's been confirmed that the 11/27/13 project will have an original (i.e. non-sequel) story, but the same hasn't been said about 05/30/14.

Could it be Toy Story 4? Please share your theories in comments.

The Incredibles 2? Please please!! The universe wants this more than any other movie.

I think Monsters University is more likely.

One of these days, The Incredibles 2. Only film I can think of that a sequel is almost universally asked for from fans.

If it'll be the '14 release, I dunno but I'm hoping for something that isn't a sequel should TI2 not be the upcoming feature. I miss Pixar release slate mystery.

Anonymous: Monsters University is set for June 21, 2013.

Darrell and Nini, you bring up an interesting point.
"The Incredibles" has to be one of the only movie series in existance where fans are practically demanding another sequel, and yet there are no signs of the movie being planned at all.

A new Henry Selick film has been announced as well. Does he still have a contract with Pixar? Do you know if his new film will be released under the Pixar name?

It would be nice to have a run of some original stories come out of Pixar.

It's not just me starting to tire of the sequels. The box office was not kind to Cars 2.

Can't wait for Brave.

I don't want to think in Toy Story 4, never.
But, just in case, I think it's unfair another sequel to this franquise before of The Incredibles.

Jeff Coté: Stay tuned.

Maybe something related to Marvel? I remember reading somewhere that when Disney acquired the company, they had a conversation with Pixar about a possible film.

For all we know it could be a resurrected Newt. The last May release we've had was Up. The shorter wait will be cool :)

Elsewhere in 2014, a new Pixar movie will open on May 30th. The studio already has mystery flick due on November 27th, 2013 and it could be what Up director Pete Docter has been working on. Perhaps November 27th film has been pushed back to May 30, 2014 (although BOM says it’s a new date). And hey, maybe it’s Toy Story 4. There’s also the possibility that it’s a completely new film that they’ve managed to keep secret.

Can not wait for the D23 Expo to hopefully answer some of these questions. I, too, hope this release is an original movie and not a sequel.

On a side note, it is nice to finally get some Pixar news! Nine posts in July has to be an all-time low for Mike, especially in a month following a movie release. Kind of speaks to the weakness of Cars 2...

I personally think that for as cool as The Incredibles 2 would be, Toy Story 4 would be good too. Can't wait to find out.

Ralph Sloane: You're right, last month was the slowest on record for me since I started. But don't blame Cars 2. Historically, July has almost always been the slowest month of the year.

I can't wait to hear about what the movie is! Is it Toy Story 4, or is it an original story. Guess we'll have to wait!

Really funny. No one wanted a Cars 2 and yet everyone is down on their knees begging for an Incredibles 2 (maybe even a 3, if they do 2 right).

(This is the old Darrell by the way. The other Darrell has a link and I don't.)

Pixar has always been known to only make a movie when they have a good story not because audiences demand it, and I'm glad they haven't made an Incredibles 2 if it means that they didn't have a good idea, all though I am not to fond of a Toy Story 4, if that's what they think they should make, then that's that, but part of me has an idea that this Toy Story 4 is just a collection of all of the Toy Story Toon's put together, I am personally hoping for the Pete Dr. Dinosaur movie, or that movie rumoured to be directed by Bud Lucky, and there's a little part of me that thinks that they didn't really cancel Newt, they just delayed it so it wouldn't release so close to Rio

When pixar started I like the run of Original films, it is so refreshing and puts Pixar ontop, I can't make this happen but any pixar sequel should be direct video release so they dont take up a whole year of cinema release. I think 2013 release will be the Pete Docter dinosuar film, 2014 another original feature.

I want another series of original films like UP and finding Nemo.

i think it should be Monsters University,The Incredibles 2 or Nemo 2.

Mesterius said...

In a perfect universe, one wouldn't even need to ask whether or not a new Pixar film will be 'original' or not. I think Pixar should focus EXCLUSIVELY on making original films. No more sequels whatsoever. The only exception would be if Brad Bird himself wants to do another Incredibles film, but otherwise, no.

Darrell said...

You raise a valid point, Mesterius, but if that were the case, the Toy Story sequels would never have been made. And we all know just how good those were.

If all of you people who are sick of Pixar sequels are just saying this just because of Cars 2 (which wasn't even *that* bad), that's stupid. One sequel doesn't change anything about how Pixar can make a sequel. Toy Story 4 would be stupid, but that would only be because they would be ruining the perfect ending that TS3 had.

Monsters University is going to be great, I'm sure.
I agree, The Incredibles 2 would be more important to make than Monsters University or any other sequel. But let's not automatically diss all other possibilities just because of one movie, alright?

Pixar's sequels have all had very original story lines. They are such a creative company, I'm sure they will make new movies that are entertaining and original, whether they are sequels, prequels, originals, spin-offs, or Newt. :)
I'm looking forward to Brave so much! And they can make whatever they want, they just have to ANNOUNCE what it is already!!
And hire me....

I'm sick of all their sequels. original story PLEASE!!!!!
