Director Steven Spielberg was on hand to accept the award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
Following Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, and Toy Story 3, Tintin becomes the first non-Pixar film to win in the animation category since it was established for the 2006 awards.
-----
Update: You can watch Spielberg's press room chat with journalists on YouTube.
Nothing very special, but he does touch on what he appreciated about the creative process on Tintin versus live action filmmaking.
Hopefully Spielberg's success will inspire other live action directors to enter the fray, and force Hollywood to recognize the role of directors on animated films. It can only be good for the craft.

Thank God it wasn't Cars 2. Although, I really think that Winnie-the-Pooh and Rango deserved some attention.
I was rooting for Rango, but Tin Tin was pretty epic. So I'm happy.
It should've been Rango or Kung Fu Panda 2... although seeing Cars 2 win it would've been nice if only to shut up the haters.
It's nice to shut up the Tintin haters.
I'm happy it won. I think it really was the best film. Rango was a close second.
Rango stood no chance here...the HFPA just do not like/understand westerns or even pseudo-westerns:
Unforgiven won top honors for Supp Actor (Hackman) and Director (Eastwood), but in true HFPA fashion, split on picture, which went to the Al Pacino-snoozer Scent of a Woman.
Last year, True Grit failed to grab a single nomination.

Tintin was a globe-trotting, action-adventure directed by Hollywood's biggest director. There was no way this could lose.
Darrell, I'll concede that the Cars 2 haters are a nuisance, but you're starting to get on my nerves as well.
BTW Have you even seen Tintin?

Howabout forcing Hollywood to recognize the role of animators on animated films? The praise is always given to the voice actors or Andy Serkis on mo-cap films. Animators just get ignored
Darrell, if Cars 2 won, that wouldn't shut up the haters, it would make the haters more angry, and thus, more vocal.
Congrats! They did a great job!
Should have been Winnie the Pooh.
@ all the Anonymouses addressing Darrell's comment: I support you :D
As for Tintin winning this Golden Globe, well, I don't agree. For me Tintin was just epic action with very poor character development (yep, even Haddock) but that's just me. If I could name a winner, I would've picked Arthur Christmas. That's how a good movie looks like (to me).
