Brave Shatters Expectations with $80 Million Opening

Brave grossed an estimated $80.2 million in its opening weekend—$66.7 million domestically plus $13.5 million from international markets—according to industry estimates at Box Office Mojo.

Topping the North American box office, Brave is Pixar's thirteenth consecutive No. 1 opening. The film's $80 million debut mauled analyst predictions that it would open at between $55 million and $60 million domestically.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted slipped to No. 2 (as expected), but still pulled in a respectable $20.2 million in the U.S. and Canada, bringing its worldwide total to $365.9 million.

I believe the worldwide total for Madagascar 3 is $365,974,000. The number you quoted is its domestic total gross.

Not really. It made 66 mil, which is great, and exceeds expectations, but I don't understand why you included the overseas haul as further evidence of it smashing the domestic predictions.

Morgan: Thanks for the correction.

Well, 66.7m is impressive but 13.5m from 10 countries (including Russia, China and Australia) is quite disappointing... :(

It hasn't opened in all markets yet - it's not out in Europe or the UK yet. So... chill with the assumptions about success or not, I think.
