Pixar Gets the Website it Deserves

For years I was incredulous at the outdated design of Pixar's official website. Even as other studios got shiny new web digs, Pixar.com languished, looking almost exactly the same as it did a decade ago.

Tonight the studio finally switched on a redesigned site, less than a week after it relaunched its RenderMan section. The site now showcases some new content, like a fresh Behind the Scenes area with ten videos of artists discussing their craft.

Happily, all the feature trailers dating back to Toy Story are still around, now in a much larger size (playback is a bit choppy for me). There's also info on current events, like Pixar In Concert this summer in California.

Awesome! I love the new site, I was wondering when they would update the old one. There is some GREAT new content on here, it really makes me happy. They even have the complete 'Jack Jack Attack' short with visual commentary straight from the Blu-ray! :) Great job Pixar! (And thanks for letting us know about the new site!)

They get the website they deserve but not the one they wanted.

It doesn't work when you say it like that...

Finally. I hardly ever went to their website before because, well, to tell the truth I thought it was a bit boring. Their new website is much better.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I can tell I'm going to spend a lot of time there in the next few days.

I truly dislike Pixar using Flash for their videos on their new site, not being able to watch them on iPhones and iPads… And that for a company who had Apple’s greatest for a founding father!

Mike: Rotten Tomatoes has Monsters, Inc. 3D listed on its website with a release date of January 18, 2013.

Do you know anything about this? Can you find out if this is true or not?

I hope so, because I'm really excited now!

Anonymous #5: It goes to HTML5 on iOS devices. Just checked, and playback is excellent on my iPad.

Anonymous #6: That's incorrect. MU will release on June 21, 2013.

@Mike Bastoli he was was talking about monsters INC not university

Mike: I know that. I thought maybe they were doing a rerelease before University, like they did with the Toy Story double feature before '3', and are about to do with Finding Nemo coming out before it's blu ray release.

Isn't it possible that they're doing the same with Monsters, Inc? I don't think the RT page is meant to be University and is simply a title mistake, because the release date is January 18.

Haha, I misread the question. Yes, Monsters, Inc. 3D opens on January 18, 2013.

Mike: AHHHH! So excited! Yay! Why didn't you make a post about it?!?

Or did I miss it somehow? I read every post... Oh well, it's confirmed. Thanks!

P.S. I just realized you have the same name as one of my favorite Pixar characters. Cool.

I posted about the re-release back when Disney announced it in October.

It's been up for almost a week. It's currently at the bottom of the home page (about to be bumped to page 2).
