New Concept Art from Pixar's Cancelled Newt [UPDATE]

Just when I was finally starting to get over Pixar's 2010 cancellation of Newt, more production artwork has emerged, and it's even more magnificent than what we've seen before.

German fan site PixarBlog found a number of pieces (include the ones shown above) of concept art on the personal blog of visual development artist Katy Wu, who posted them yesterday.

Wu, who also posted some paintings she did for La Luna, added that even though the Newt never made it to the screen, working on it was still "a good experience".

PIXAR, LET ME SEE THIS MOVIE!

Update (Jan. 6): "Sorry, the page you were looking for in this blog does not exist." The artwork has been pulled.

Who knows, maybe they'll release it eventually one day. At Pixar good ideas never go away. It may take a while, but I have a feeling maybe one day down the road we'll see Newt. Even if it's a 7 minute short or a 24 minute TV special. :)

Quoting Woody from Toy Story 2: "That was a great show, I mean why cancel it??"

A short version of this would be a great idea! But it really deserves a full length movie. Looks gorgeous.

maybe one day another director could get Newt working with another Story that wouldn't be similar to Rio.

Now it makes it even more curious that the artwork was pulled. Not to get my hopes up or anything, but I guess we'll see what happens with this project. I wouldn't be surprised to see it live on in some way... somehow.

Curses, I always wanted this movie to be released. Now I'm even more disappointed. I bet Pixar could've made this movie better than "alpha and omega" and "rio" put together and not just because those movies sucked. And @Dapoon you are brilliant :)

Was that the only artwork that was posted? I'm glad you saved it, but what if there was other art in the blog that we lost?
