Directed by animator and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall, Planes is now set to open in theatres on August 9. In another sign that the film might be better that many expect, Disney has given it the full stereoscopic 3-D treatment.
An updated synopsis for the movie reads:
Not that it matters to Disney from a financial perspective.
Grownups may balk at the idea of an extension to Pixar's Cars universe, but the target audience is going to to eat this up. It's a simple fact: boys love cars and planes. With the right marketing, Disney could see a good return on its investment at the box office.
An updated synopsis for the movie reads:
The all-new story offers an exciting cast of characters and centers on Dusty’s high-flying dream. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing, so he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.A new trailer leaked on YouTube yesterday, but was quickly pulled. It's hard to tell from a minute and a half the quality of the story, but at least it confirmed that the visuals will be solid. (I'll be sure to post it when it becomes available again.)

Disney is ripping Pixar off! GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
I WILL THROW A TEMPER TANTRUM IF ANYONE MAKES ME SEE IT! ;)
Dane Cook? Nah, not for me, sorry.
Looks pretty cool to me!! :D
This may indeed make money, but it doesn't justify the films existence.
Um, no. This is a total rip-off on Cars.
Anonymous #5: Actually, it's a Spin-Off of Cars.
Anonymous #6: but disney shouldn't be allowed to do that!
It is true. As long as Disney markets the hell out of it, it will succeed and become a blockbuster. With that said, even if Pixar isn't involved, they shouldn't have allowed disneytoon studios to make this. They would have killed it off in 2006. The fact that they allowed PLanes to go into production along with the development of the unnecessary Finding Nemo 2 shows me that Pixar has transformed from a bank of good development into a business just like Hollywood.
This cannot happen. Its a total ripoff.
Was unimpressed by the Planes with Mater short they included with Cars 2.
There was a new Planes trailer on the new Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Blu-ray. And unless I was seriously mistaken, it said COMING TO BLU-RAY... I wonder if the theatrical plans have been scrapped.
That's the old trailer. Theatrical release is happening.
